we got out of the hospital much later than I had hoped, doesn't it always go that way?
It was the meds that we had to wait for. We were in the car by 6:30, and the drive home was tricky....the rain was pounding so hard I could barely see, the roads were flooding and the wind was wicked! As I was driving I could literally feel my body unraveling...from the stress and the worry over the last 3 days. I got home and of course the greeting committee was at the door as I was pulling in the garage. The kids were so happy to see Hudson home...Hailey was really worried he wasn't coming home, and Hunter told me they have been praying for him every day at school and at night before bed. My wonderful friend, Val, had dropped off dinner for us, so I had something warm to eat...I have been living on rice cakes and flips crackers, I didn't ever eat the cafeteria food, so a hot meal tasted great.
For those of you with fragile kids, I want to pass along a few things I learned regarding my child and the H1N1....
*Our nuero wrote up and sent me a copy of a 2 page instruction sheet for E.R. nurses and docs on how to treat Hudson and what he can and can't have if he was being seen in an emergency sitaution. I strongly urge any of you to ask your docs for something like this and make copies and give it to all care takers, put it in your diaper bag, car, etc. We actually recieved this in the mail last week...what timing! This was instrumental...I had no idea they would give him insulin, and there were other specific as to exactly what he needed in the I.V. drip.
* I learned that I will not wait to take him to the ped's office, that if I ever see Hudson deteriorate like that the E.R. should get a phone call that we are bringing him in and we will take that direct route.
* I learned that Hudson should have gotten his I.V. drip first thing in the E.R.( per Dr. S instructions) which they didn't do, as he did not get hooked up until after we were admitted and in our room which was 2 a.m. That mistake could have taken him!
* I learned to check and re-check ALL meds brought into his room.
It has all been a learning experience for me.
It's been interesting....Hudson was such an angel at the hospital. The only time he would cry was when they would stick these tiny tubes down his nose and do the deep suctioning...can you blame him? Every nurse always commented on how strong he is...he fights when he needs to...I would have to hold his head, one nurse would do the suctioning, another nurse would hold his hips and legs...I always find it ironic when the nurses comment about what a strong kid he is, when this disease is all about lack of energy and strength...he musters it up when he needs to! Anyways, the interesting thing is he never cried in the hospital, last night he had me up 3 times, crying. He didn't have a fever, but he did seem uncomfortable. Maybe it is because the nurses are up all night to give him the tylenol and ibuprofen through the night and I wasn't willing to set my clock to get up and administer through the night. Maybe he like the hospital better? Thats a crazy thought! Anyways, I was feeling pretty crappy last night, and the first time Hudson woke I didn't even hear him, which is super unusual, and my husband wakes me up to tell me Hudson is crying....ggrrrrr.....and this morning 10 minutes before Hunter has to get up for school he leaves to do something for work....I am a little bitter....so I soldier on, and take care of all 3 now while feeling like I just want to crawl into bed. Sometimes I don't know how I am able to keep going, how my body manages to function in spite of no sleep, stress, and worry...it is showing signs a break down may occur at any moment, but there always seems to be enough juice in my battery to chug along, I am certain God is supplying me with just enough to get through another day.
Hudson is fast asleep. Tolerating food, and no fever this morning. Hailey FINALLY woke with no fever so it looks like she is done...I believe it is 24 hours this morning fever free!
The house is a mess, the laundry needs to be done, Hunter has a half day today, and all these tasks are overwhelming me. I guess I better pop some Ibuprofen and suck it up...the day must go on!
Here is a picture montage of our hospital stay...I didn't take any of Hudson at his worst....well....because I didn't think too...I was way too worried.
Day #2 ...Hudson slept all day.
Notice his poor fingers loaded with bandaids...there was blood all over his bed from all the poking to check his sugars.
A nice warm bath makes a clean and tired Hudson.
Playing on the mat was enough to knock him out....

Whew, so good to know your home now, Ive been checking for updates often. The weather has been so scary here, Im just glad you got to come home to a warm welcome and a warm meal (nice to have good friends) and the kiddos could feel comforted seeing their little brother :) What a scare for you all.
I was also thrilled to see my protocol letter from Dr S. in the mail this week, Its about time we got one!
Im not sure if we dodged a bullet or not regarding the flu here. The boys only have low grade fevers and feeling OK for the most part...so not sure it could be H1N1since I would think their fevers would be a lot higher and they would be more miserable. They do have headaches, which I know is common with this flu...I guess we'll just wait it out and see what develops over the weekend. Crossing my fingers that Jack doesnt get it especially!
Welcome home, been sending you tons of prayers over the week, warm hugs to your family tonight...now get some sleep girl!
Heidi and Jack 6, Mito

Glad to see all are on the mend. I always make them bring in his meds and mix them in front of me. So I can check that they are right and that they only mix them with water as he is on the keto diet. I have all of his meds typed up on a sheet that I present to them and tell them to make a photo copy as I need it back. I also have to make sure that they put him on the right drip as he cannot have glucose so I check everything. I have been known to chase a nurse down to get his meds as I want to keep him on his schedule.
